We have re-opened the Utila Rio Coco Cafe and many are coming for coffee, food and conversations. We have a staff of young volunteers who are serving in the cafe as well as engaging this international crowd who come from all corners of the world searching for adventure and the answers to life's questions.
From 2020 to 2024 we added an extension to our dock, build a kitchen in our third floor apartment, added a porch to the third floor and repainted the entire house/cafe.
This past year we constructed a three bedroom apartment on the southwest corner of our cafe to house our volunteers.

Now we are furnishing the apartment and adding needed equipment.
1) Electricity from Utila Power Company cost 41 cents USD per kilowatt hour. For comparision, in Florida its only 9 cents per KW Hour. We are spending hundreds each month for our kitchen equipent and home. The obvious solution is a solar power system. We are working with an American electircal tech to provide us with a system for the summer and fall. Cost will be $20,000, with a return on investment of less that 30 months.
2) Our 20 year old golf cart is on its last legs. We use it to haul cargo, food supplies and people. It is one of our most valuable tools. New ones are available for around $16,000.
